Chai tea is excellent not only because it tastes so great, but every ingredient is beneficial medicine. This amazing tea is loaded with herbal remedy goodness including ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, peppercorns, cloves and honey. They’re all exceptional for colds and flu with immune boosting advantages.

Herbal Remedies for Cold and Flu

Immune Boosting Stew

The advantage of this immune boosting stew is that it can be made as a meal for the whole family. It’s the healthy food we all can eat throughout the season to keep us well and well-nourished. It’s a simple, one-pot meal made with ingredients that are easy to have on hand at all times.

Here’s how to make it:

In a large pot, add the following ingredients:

  • 8 cups water
  • 1/2 cup barley
  • 1 chopped onion
  • 1 inch peeled ginger root
  • 4 cloves garlic
  • Chopped shiitake mushrooms (can use dried)
  • 2 chopped carrots
  • 2 chopped celery stalks
  • 3 pieces astragalus (found at a health food store, herb store or online)
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground pepper
  • Dash cayenne
  • Salt to taste

Simmer for one hour. Remove the pieces of astragalus before serving.

Herbal Remedies for Cold and Flu

Garlic

Garlic is one of the best remedies to prevent a number of both short-term and long-term illnesses. To prevent cold and flu, add garlic to foods often. You can make pesto to serve over pasta, fish or as a dip for crackers. Roast garlic with your potatoes. You can add garlic to stir fries or make warming batches of garlic filled chili. The possibilities are endless.

You can also buy pickled garlic. For best preventative results, eat a clove a day. Pickled garlic is so delicious, you won’t even know you are taking your medicine.

Other Simple Measures

Here is what else you can do to stay well this cold and flu season.

  • When you are around others who are sick, take ½ dropper full of Echinacea tincture three times per day.
  • Drink warming teas.
  • Dress warm to avoid getting chilled. Especially cover up the neck and chest area and definitely wear a hat when going out into the cold.
  • Be sure to continue staying active by exercising regularly.
  • Get a sufficient amount of sleep each night.
